The mission of the Bigfoot Field Investigators & Researchers Organization
is multifaceted, but the organization essentially seeks to resolve the
mystery surrounding the bigfoot phenomenon, that is, to derive conclusive
documentation of the species existgance, or if there is some other
(advanced physics) explanation, to study
the creatures on whatever basis they may exist. This goal is pursued
through the proactive collection of empirical data and physical evidence
from the field and by means of activities designed to promote an awareness
and understanding of the nature and origin of the evidence.
The BIRO, the oldest (1975) and best organization of its kind, is directed by a community of scientists, journalists, lay researchers and specialists from diverse backgrounds. The researchers who compose the BIRO are engaged in projects, including field and laboratory investigations, designed to address various aspects of the bigfoot phenomenon. As a result of the education and experience of its members and the quality of their efforts, as well as honesty, the BIRO is widely considered as the most credible and respected investigative network involved in the study of this subject.
We are also a No-kill, No-capture group. No guns nor traps are used.
When compelling evidence is collected by or submitted to the BIRO, it is presented to scientific and forensic specialists for evaluation. The BIRO organizes and reports observations and data and publishes research material. Through this process, the BIRO steadily improves the size and scope of its collective expertise.
Those in the organization anticipate that this emphasis on cooperation
and professionalism is not only the most realistic approach to resolving
the mystery, but that it furthers the BIRO's long term goal: Determining
how these rare and elusive animals, if they are in fact animals, can and
should be protected and studied after their existence is generally acknowledged
by governmental agencies and the scientific community. In the event that
advanced-physics explanations are verified
by the evidence collected, we hope to be in the forefront of communications
experiments with these creatures, which may be more rare than any known
life form
yet encountered on this planet.

If you call, we ask you identify yourself.
Your name is kept confidenial.
We were founded in 1975 during an expedition to the Lummi Indian Reservation,
in Bellingham,WA.
Our director is Jon-Erik Beckjord, BA with honors,Tulane University,
& MBA UC Berkeley. He has also taken
college courses in zoology, anthropology and advanced physics, plus
USAF Academy survivial training, and high-
altitude photo interpretation.
We are a scientific org. under the definition of what one is, but we
do not claim any direct affiliation with any university.
Our Board of Advisors are specialists in anthropology, primatology,
psychology, marine biology, land biology, optical
physics, and an author of books on Bigfoot research.
One of our honorary members is Mr. Robert Gimlin.
Our members hold to a variety of theories as to what Bigfoot is. None
are required to hold to any one theory. In our
view, an open mind and the ability to "Think outside the box" is a
needed trait in all members.
